Cracks in Time

Cracks on Buildings is a visual communication project exploring cracks and surface imperfections found across historic buildings in Middlesbrough. Through photography, rubbings, casting, laser cutting, embossing and printmaking, these overlooked architectural details were transformed into visual and tactile artworks. The project considers cracks as more than signs of damage, viewing them instead as traces of time, history and change. The final outcome, the Book of Cracks, brings these experiments together in a limited-edition artist book that encourages viewers to see beauty, memory and identity within the ageing built environment.
